Horst P. Knapp, DPM, AACFAS

Dr. Knapp grew up in Long Island, New York, the son of German immigrants. He completed his undergraduate B.S. degree in Biology at Binghamton University in New York. He also completed a Masters degree at Rutgers University in New Jersey and served as an adjunct faculty member before attending Podiatry School at New York College of Podiatric Medicine in New York City. He graduated with honors and progressed to his residency training program at University Hospital in Newark, NJ.

The first year of the program involved internship rotations side by side with medical residents through Internal Medicine, Bone Radiology, Vascular Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Pathology, and Trauma. As an inner city hospital and Level I Trauma Center resident, Dr. Knapp was exposed to every type of foot and ankle injury imaginable from open ankle and rear foot fractures/dislocations, to gunshot wound and degloving injuries. The impoverished area also yielded numerous serious diabetic wounds and infections requiring operative debridement, amputation and the subsequent bracing, and rehabilitation required during recovery. With cases combined from Hackensack University Medical Center and Holy Name Hospital, Dr. Knapp performed over 1000 podiatric surgical procedures including elective forefoot procedures and reconstructive rear foot and ankle surgery. Perhaps the most valuable training Dr. Knapp received was assisting the orthopedic department at Hackensack University Hospital. Over ten attending orthopedic foot and ankle surgeons were involved in the training program. In the third training year, Dr. Knapp trained under Douglas Avella, a world-renowned pediatric orthopedist, medically and surgically treating all types of pediatric orthopedic illnesses and injuries.

Dr. Knapp is Board Certified in foot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery.
